UK Ambassador to Japan Tim Hitchens CMG LVO is presented with a special commemorative issue of BCCJ ACUMEN by Simon Farrell, the magazine’s publisher and BCCJ Executive Committee member, at a farewell lunch hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ).

The Ambassador’s Residence at the British Embassy Tokyo hosted the annual British Fashion Mission Showcase. Japanese buyers expressed interest in a range of British fashion brands, many of them exhibiting in the country for the first time.

The Japan Society held its 125th anniversary dinner in London. Japanese Ambassador to the UK Koji Tsuruoka formally presented the society with the Foreign Minister’s Commendation, which was awarded this year, at the event.

Riders from BNP Paribas participated in the charity cycling team Knights in White Lycra’s (KIWL) Imperial Palace Fun Ride. KIWL raised ¥373,000, bringing their 2016 total to over ¥10mn.

Secondary students from the British School in Tokyo took part in the Secondary Inter House Sports Day, the largest participation from the student body to date, with 400 secondary students competing.

The British School in Tokyo’s Year Three students spent the day viewing and sketching the various art installations found at the Hakone Open Air Museum as part of their art curriculum.

In Japan for the G7 Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Karuizawa, Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling MP called on Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Their meeting included discussing sharing the UK’s infrastruc-ture expertise and experience from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as Tokyo prepares to deliver the Games in 2020.

Minister for Asia and the Pacific Alok Sharma MP met Minister for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Tamayo Marukawa, in Tokyo on 27 September to discuss UK expertise in support of the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Now in its eighth year, the annual Japan Matsuri returned to London’s Trafalgar Square, for a day of Japanese food, culture and entertainment.
