Britain is full of overpriced restaurants, poor-quality tourist attractions and expensive hotels, according to the latest Lonely Planet country guide to the nation, published in May. The volume claims that the country “has had its day”, and even Britons can no longer afford to holiday there, adding that many destinations are “overpriced or lacking in quality” and the tourist industry sometimes “just doesn’t deliver”.
Nevertheless, Lonely Planet does say that many draws are still “great”, Britain is one of the most fascinating places in the world, and foreign visitors are the winners because of the weak pound.
