The BBC’s TV centre has been sold to the owners of Japan’s leading property firm, the Financial Times reported on 16 July.
The broadcaster’s west London Television Centre—the most iconic building in UK television history—was sold for about £200mn to development firm Stanhope Plc, in which Mitsui Fudosan has a 15% stake. The BBC is attempting to cut costs.
First opened in 1960, the building was the home of such popular BBC programmes as Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Doctor Who, Top of the Pops and Blue Peter.
