The Guardian’s annual Travel Awards for the first time selected Tokyo as its readers’ favourite overseas city for 2010, the newspaper reported on 3 November.
Japan came second, after the Maldives, as the favourite long-haul country. Last year, Tokyo received no mention, while Japan ranked fifth. The Guardian said that Japan’s appeal lies in the coexistence of innovation and cultural history.
