Shadow Secretary of State for Education Stephen Twigg said England’s schools should take lessons from Japan and Far East nations on how to improve performance, the BBC reported on 14 May.
Twigg, MP for Liverpool West Derby, said that despite many school reforms, there has been little change in the style of classroom teaching since Victorian times. The Labour Party’s number one priority for education, he added, is raising the quality and status of teachers. He plans to visit Japan to see how it has reformed education.
