Think tank reports rise in nations’ output

Media-chart
Both the UK and Japan have moved up in the 2014–15 Global Competitiveness Index, The Guardian reported on 3 September.

Covering 144 economies, the ranking measures national competitiveness—defined as the set of institutions, policies and factors that determine the level of a country’s productivity.

The think tank behind the results, the World Economic Forum, has said that the UK’s wealth of sophisticated businesses, and willingness to adopt new technologies puts the country in a good position to improve productivity further. Japan has been praised for its industrial strength and competitiveness.
