A group of Tohoku high school footballers arrived in Britain to play at Wembley Stadium, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported on 23 November.
The English Football Association had offered the hallowed pitch in London free for half a day in support of the disaster zone’s reconstruction.
The 16 members, from Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, will play two matches against UK-based Japanese teams.
“It’s a stage I can never get to however hard I try, so I want to enjoy the matches,” said team captain Kazuki Saito, 18, from Fukushima Prefecture’s Odaka Technical High School.
